It’s been awhile since my last post…I’ve been up to my neck in plastic Easter Eggs!
Two years ago I took Nathan to his first huge egg hunt that one of the local churches held. There were hundreds of kids there, baskets in hands, being held back by the neck of their shirts, ready to pounce as soon as the horn sounded to start collecting. Nathan literally got trampled, and when I finally found him coming up for air, he had one measly little plastic egg in his hand. Granted he thought it was the best egg in the world, but I was horrified by the rudeness of the some of these parents pushing kids out of their way and hoarding eggs for their kids. As far as I was concerned I would be more than happy to never take my kids to one of those events ever again.
That year I decided I wanted to start having our own egg hunts for the boys and their friends as a yearly tradition. When I was younger our neighbors always threw candy and eggs in their yard for their children and friends. It was something I always looked forward to, and thought it would be fun to continue this for my own boys. All my mama friends bring a Springy snack to share, and I throw a couple hundred plastic eggs in the grass with goodies inside. Here are some pictures from this year’s fun!
As for yesterday, we had a nice, quiet Easter at home as a family and Auntie Marissa. Nathan and Shane dove head first into their Easter baskets, had another little egg hunt in the backyard, and then decided to go for a run as a family since it was so beautiful out. When we came back the boys played outside in their new Power wheels Escalade. Well, new to them….our neighbors are moving and asked if we wanted it since their daughter had outgrown it some time ago. Score for the boys!!! They love it so much!
I put together brunch and mimosas and we sat outside and ate in the beautiful sunshine. Not too long after finishing brunch I popped a ham into the oven that we enjoyed for dinner. Just like every other holiday we spent the whole day eating and enjoying one another’s company. It was a great Easter week/weekend! Hope those of you that celebrate had a wonderful one too!

Great idea on your own Easter egg hunt! We had a similar experience this year…we went to our church’s egg hunt (both girls’ first one ever) and I wouldn’t even put Caroline down because of how all the kids (AND PARENTS) pounced on the eggs. I was so disgusted! We were required to bring 12 filled eggs per child, and so you would think that each child should bring home 12 eggs too, but we didn’t even hit 12 eggs between the two of them. It was so sad/disappointing for me!
Liz that really is terrible!! I think that was the most disheartening thing was to see such greedy and pushy parents. It made made me sad to know they were raising the next generation of children that could be in school with my children. It’s all part of it I suppose but still disappointing! Hope the rest of your Easter was fun though!!!

Oh… Tonight’s news showed the White House Easter festivities… I think they said 30,000 folks participated!!! A 5 yr old boy was hugged by the president because he cried when he didnt win the egg roll contest… Imagine 30,000. Yikes!!
We tried to go to that! But it requires a lottery and we were not the lucky ones this year
Yup! We would love to do the White House egg roll one year but I’m afraid of the whole trampling thing. ha
I seriously couldn’t even imagine that many kids at an egg hunt. Maybe it’s better you didn’t get picked Liz lol
That sounds like so much fun and a wonderful idea. The large Easter egg hunts scare me because, you’re right, the big kids and adults take over. Shane’s bow tie is killer! Too cute.
Haha thanks, Im surprised he kept it on as long as he did! Yeah I’m pretty sure we will never go back to one of those huge ones again…it was pure madness!
You’re the best mom ever. Do you ever sleep? Love the egg hunt idea – was that at a public park? Some friends do that for our kids and I love it since we found out that our local egg hunt is a trample scene (luckily M didn’t know a thing about the eggs and happily played on the playground) like you mentioned.
Loved your Easter too. The mimosas sounded especially good (can you tell it’s been 20-weeks without a drink for this preggo?!). Wish we were local to each other – would be so much fun (probably a bit stalkerish of me to say).
You always make me laugh….stalkerish?? Not at all! How about so much fun!! It sounds like you have a similar group of girlfriends to mine and also live in a really fun town/neighborhood. How much fun would we have to combine mama forces?
As soon as you have your baby we will have to toast mimosas long distance style!!
